Extended Instrument: upsammy & Valentina Magaletti + Juli Deák + Julia Giertz & Cara Tolmie + Helena Linder + TBA
Extended Instrument is part of Fylkingen’s reopening programme, a two-day event featuring artists who explore, in different ways, the idea of the extended instrument Through specially commissioned and site-specific works, installations, performances and live performances.
Julia Giertz and Cara Tolmie have created a new composition that weaves together live and synthesised voice, sounding objects and the resonant frequencies of the space. As a ceremonial opening, the work becomes a collective listening exercise in which Fylkingen’s new home at ABF emerges as an extended instrument, singing its own song of inauguration.
Juli Deák develops methods from her Breathing Project, bringing the flute’s “hidden sounds” to the foreground – soft melodic lines, circular breathing and percussive effects.
Helena Linder creates a new work for amplified sirens. In her live performance, microphones come to life and become catalysts in a performance where the siren reveals more than the ear initially perceives.
Maria Chavez has a unique ability to create immersive sound experiences and performances from fragments of broken records, making each performance a singular and unpredictable experience.
Valentina Magaletti & upsammy meet in a collaboration marked by a friction between the synthetic and the organic, harmony and dissonance – a sonic landscape shaped by optimistic, queer vibrations.
